Why Collins Is Different

A Metal Roofer Who Builds Your Panels Right at Your Home. Not in a factory 1,000 miles away.

Most metal roofing contractors order panels from a manufacturer, ship them to your home, and hope they fit your roof. Collins doesn’t work that way. We’re one of the few metal roofers in the Twin Cities who owns our own roll-forming equipment — and we bring it right to your jobsite.

Your panels are formed in one continuous piece, cut to your roof’s exact length, and installed the same day. No trucking damage. No cut-to-length seams you don’t need. Just a tighter, cleaner, longer-lasting metal roof.

Rolled On-Site, Not ShippedYour panels are formed in one continuous piece at your home — no pre-cut factory lengths, no shipping damage, no wasted material.
  • 2
Cut to Your Exact RooflineEvery panel is measured and cut to your specific roof. Cleaner seams, better water shedding, a tighter finished look.

Our Recommendation Standing Seam Metal Roofing

The Best Metal Roof System on the Market. Hand-crimped. Hidden fasteners. No exposed screws.

Not all metal roofs are created equal. The cheapest options use exposed fasteners — screws driven straight through the panel — that loosen, leak, and need replacing every 10–15 years. Standing seam is different: panels lock together with hidden, mechanically seamed connections. No screws through the metal. No leak points. Just a clean, continuous surface engineered to outlast your mortgage. Our Seam 26/24 system is hand-crimped by our installers and finished in Kynar 500® — the most fade-resistant paint on the market.

Premium Upgrade The 138T / 238T T-Seam System

The Standard Bearer for Metal Roofing. Weather-tight. Serviceable. Unmatched.

The 138T and 238T are Collins Roofing & Sheet Metal's proprietary premium standing seam systems — engineered with a T-Seam connection, continuous factory-applied butyl cap, and symmetrical panel design that allow individual panels to be removed and reinstalled years down the road if ever needed.

1

T-Seam with Butyl Cap

A continuous factory-applied butyl cap creates an exceptionally water-tight seam — rated down to 1/4":12 slopes, the lowest in the industry.

2

Symmetrical Removable Panels

Both sides of every panel are identical — meaning individual panels can be removed and reinstalled years later for service or modifications. Most standing seam systems can't do this.

3

Offset Clips for Recover

Specialized clips with built-in offset allow the 138T/238T to be installed directly over existing roofing — creating an air gap that reduces ice dam risk and improves energy efficiency.

"I received quotes from 5 different companies and went with Collins because they exclusively focus on metal. Their quote came in at $38,000 — the others ranged from $57,000 to $85,000. The roof took 3 days. Class IV impact rating got me 25% off my homeowner's insurance every year. Collins Roofing & Sheet Metal is the very best."

"We got 6 bids before choosing Collins for our new metal roof. We liked their experience with metal, competitive prices, and that they cut the material on site. The crew was thoughtful and cleaned up daily. The real test is how things go when there are issues — they communicated clearly and made it right. I would definitely choose them again."

"Last year a storm essentially destroyed our new asphalt roof. We started looking at metal and were concerned about cost — but Collins surprised us with lower pricing than competitors and a quick turnaround. Quick on responses, patient with all our questions. If you want to make a break from asphalt, contact Collins for a bulletproof, hailproof roof."

Your Questions Answered

What Homeowners Ask.

A quality metal roof lasts 50+ years — three to four times longer than a typical asphalt shingle roof, which usually needs replacing every 15–20 years in Minnesota winters. Metal also handles ice, snow, and hail far better than asphalt, and most homeowners qualify for a homeowner’s insurance discount thanks to the Class 4 impact rating. We do still install asphalt for homeowners who want a lower upfront cost — but if you plan to be in your home long-term, metal pays for itself.
For most Minnesota homeowners, we recommend a standing seam metal roof. Standing seam uses hidden fasteners — the panels lock together with mechanically seamed connections instead of exposed screws driven through the panel. That eliminates the most common metal roof leak points and means no replacement fasteners 10 years down the road. Stone-coated steel and metal shingles are also options, but standing seam is the longest-lasting, lowest-maintenance choice.
Nope. A properly installed metal roof is only about 3 decibels louder than an architectural shingle — imperceptible to the human ear. Because your Collins metal roof is installed over a solid deck with underlayment, it’s no louder than the roof you have today.
All our metal roof systems are 50+ year systems and feature the most fade-resistant paint on the market — Kynar 500®. Our Seam 26/24 carries a 40-year limited material warranty and a 20-year labor warranty. Most homeowners who install a Collins metal roof will never need to replace it.
All of our panels carry a Class 4 impact rating — the highest rating available for roofing products. This not only means exceptional hail resistance, but it also qualifies many homeowners for reduced insurance premiums. Ask your insurance agent about Class 4 discounts.
Typically, yes — which is exactly what you want on a Minnesota home. A Collins metal roof is engineered to shed snow and ice, dramatically reducing the risk of ice dams and roof overload. We can also install snow retention systems for areas where controlled shedding matters.
Most residential Collins metal roof installations take 3–7 working days depending on home size, roof complexity, and weather. Because we bring our own roll-forming equipment right to your property and fabricate panels on-site, we’re not waiting weeks on factory orders. Your project starts when we say it starts.
Every home is different, but most Collins metal roof projects fall between $25,000 and $65,000 — with most landing in the $35,000–$50,000 range — depending on size, pitch, complexity, and color selection. We offer free on-site estimates and financing up to 84 months — so most homeowners find it works out to a comfortable monthly payment on the last roof they’ll ever buy.
